The Cheshire Public Library is the information, cultural and continuing education center of the community. The mission of the Cheshire Public Library is to provide a conducive environment and the necessary tools to meet every Cheshire resident's need for information, self-realization, cultural growth and recreation. The Library is a member of the LEAP consortium. LEAP (Library Exchange Aids Patrons) was formed in 1978 and was the first automation consortium in the state. Nine member libraries share one mainframe computer containing the database of holdings. The towns participating in LEAP are Cheshire, East Haven, North Branford, North Haven, Orange and West Haven. The Library houses a collection of 87,695 volumes, 277 periodical titles, and 6,000
