The Des Moines Public Library Foundation is a nonprofit community Foundation founded in 1998 to promote, facilitate and implement collaboration between public and private funding sources in support of ensuring outstanding public library services in Des Moines today and tomorrow. Money raised by the Foundation supports programs that cannot be provided by the operating budget of the Des Moines Public Library. These programs are sponsored or hosted by the Foundation and its generous donors: A summer reading program for school age children in Des Moines in which over 7,000 people participated in 2006.
