The West End Fire and Rescue Company, Shippensburg's youngest volunteer fire company, was officially organized in 1955 as the result of an attempt on the part of a number of concerned local citizens to supplement services provided by the two established companies of Shippensburg. These individuals, a number of whom were active members of the Vigilant and CV companies, were convinced of the need for a "station" to be located in the West End area of the borough which could be manned by members living close by.
