BEI Hawaii has grown with Hawaii and the Pacific since 1890. On the island of Oahu, BEI Hawaii began as an importer of commercial fertilizer (Albatross Guano) from Laysan Island. This was the beginning of commercial production of sugar, coffee, and pineapple in Hawaii, which created an expanding market for new agricultural products and commercial fertilizer. The company soon became the first to ship fertilizer directly to all the major islands in Hawaii. The demand for a greater range of products lead BEI Hawaii to rapidly expand operations to supply the agricultural industry. In 1927, a branch on the island of Hawaii was opened.
