U Lun Gywe
(Grand Master)
(1930 - ) Born in Yangon, Myanmar (Burma) and graduated from the Art Institute of Teacher's Training. After his formal education he studied with many master painters and today he is considered one of the most well-known and respected living master of Burmese painters. With his characteristic style of impressionism he is a master of color and emotion and is fond of painting the beauty of women. Exhibitions: USA, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan and Burma. His works are found in National Museum in Burma, Singapore Art Museum and the National Art Gallery of Malaysia.
Artist's Statement
My work is a balance between physical and mental body. The physical body is the real one, it is what you see and touch, and this is important when you paint. You need to be able to understand the reality underlying what you see. The mental aspect is that which the mind gifts, it is what you take from nature as you look at it You hold the images and the feelings and ideas that accompany them, but you do not perceive them as though through a lens. You look at natureand the artist takes what is symbolic of the thing he is painting.
Painting means art of communication. Painting exchanges information through pictures. Likewise, singing via vocal, perfume mediated through fragrance and clothes by way of soft touch. In art of communication, it is important for artist to be able to demonstrate beauty strikingly from any view he wished for. (front. back, side and overall views.)
