1994: Dermalogica makes the decision to remove its product Super Fade from the market, based upon review published in the Journal of American Toxicology, that states "Hydroquinone should not be used in leave-on, non-drug cosmetic products." Dermalogica commits itself to finding alternate ingredients that are not harmful and will even skin tone, and develops Skin Brightening System, a tri-active system that uses botanical brighteners to even skin tone and control hyperpigmentation. 2006: Twelve years after Dermalogica's choice to never include Hydroquinone in products, the FDA proposes a ban on this commonly used skin lightening ingredient.
